June Festivities

This is our summer to-do list and we're working hard to check everything off. (Since taking this picture, we have added Farmer's Market and plan an international meal to our list.)

We went to the zoo and were told they were closing early that day because of a special event. We hurriedly got on the sky tram and headed out to Africa. We had a great hour and were able to see lots of animals, including these three.

Afterwards, we went to Krispy Kreme and got a free doughnut because it was National Donut Day.

Caleb got a variety of awards at his court of honor, which are all sitting in a baggie waiting for me to sew them on.

Now that we have a temple 35 minutes away, I was able to attend the new monthly RS temple session. It was neat to see so many staff and patrons that I knew. It was packed!

Emma, Halle Spencer and I went to see Venus crossing in front of the sun at the community college. They had several telescopes and a monitor set up on the roof so we could safely watch. The coolest part was that we could see our house from up there.

We went back to the zoo and visited the Asia and Australia portions. There was a bit of construction going on and every time the jackhammers started up, this peacock opened his feathers and shook them aggressively. He also had quite the impressive shriek. It was neat to watch. We also went to the zoo's new bird show. We sat in the front and the birds swooped right over our heads. It was neat.
We took our annual blueberry picking trip and we had lots of fun. The kids are bigger and have a bit more stamina and patience this year. Halle was the best picker and filled up a bucket all by herself. We ended up with over 11 pounds of blueberries.
We went over to Jazz in the Woods where the kids had fun in the children's tent. Afterwards, we listened to some jazz, played ball on the grass and tried to find where Halle ran off to.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and there is a special exhibit downtown with lots of artifacts from the ship. When we entered, we were each given a boarding pass that had information about an actual Titanic passenger. Emma was in 3rd class, Halle and Spencer were in 1st class and I was in 2nd class. After taking the tour, we checked the board to see if we had survived or gone down with the ship. I was the only survivor.

Top all that off with swimming lessons, practices, gymnastics, ball games and the pool and we're sure having a fun summer!
