Finally, we enter the park. The weather is so nice that we open all the windows and the sunroof so we can get a better view. This way, we can also share our sarcastic comments with the surrounding vehicles. It's a great display and we all have our favorites. Mine is the frog that flicks out his tongue to catch a snowflake. Once we're through, we hurry back home so the kids can watch TV and recover from all that togetherness.Sunday, January 3, 2010
Christmas Lights
Another Christmas tradition we have is to go see the lights at Longview Lake. It's quite a fabulous setup and so the crowds are fierce. We set out just after dark on a Tuesday night, hoping that the line would be short. On the way, like always, we listen to Walter Cronkite tell the story of the Christmas Truce of WWI. It makes me cry every time. This lasts from our house all the way to the turnoff for the park. Then we make bets on how long the wait will be: 15 minutes, 30 minutes and 35 minutes were the first guesses. After those times expire, new guesses are made. For a long time, tail lights are the only lights we see.

So how long did it take to get in?
It was well over an hour. I didn't let the kids bring a movie for the drive over but I was sure wishing that we did.
